Grapat started to form as an idea after the birth of the founder’s first child, Lola. They realised how she didn’t really need any off-the-shelf toys in order to play and would use her ingeniousness to turn everyday objects into whatever she desired.
After the birth of their second child Tomàs, they moved from the big city to the countryside where they could integrate the slower way of life they had been longing for. They started to create and play with wood, and slowly but surely, the family home turned into a fully operational workshop.
Grapat means “a handful” in Catalan, the native language of their land, and this is exactly where the simple idea behind this humble project came from: to carry a handful of loose pieces with the utmost care in our hands, and offer them with the same love to the hands of children.
Mini masterpieces
Each item from our GRAPAT collection is hand formed and hand painted. From simple, pure colors, to delightful details, non-toxic paints create a rainbow of creativity. Thoughtful recycled packaging protects the environment, while the simple, modern aesthetic appeals to both children and adults.
Wide Open Play
GRAPAT offers boundary-free play. What exactly does that mean? Well, there is no wrong way to use the beautiful tools they create. While that can be freeing to children, it can be a bit intimidating to us as instruction guided adults.
